Practical guide · The Gerry Method
What does a small business website cost?
Understand upfront costs, ongoing website fees, email licences and what to ask before choosing a managed website package.
Compare the whole service, not just the build price
A website quote can cover very different things. One may include design only; another may include hosting, a domain, email setup and ongoing support. Ask for the pages, features and ongoing responsibilities in writing. A low build price is not a useful comparison unless you also know what happens after launch.
Our package: £299 upfront and £59 per month once live
The Gerry Method’s managed small business website offer is £299 upfront, with £59 monthly starting at the agreed go-live date. It can include design, hosting, domain setup and management, booking or enquiry functionality, SSL, maintenance and small ongoing content updates. One Google Workspace Business Standard user is included. The proposal confirms the scope before you commit.
Which costs should you ask about?
Check how many pages and email users are included, what counts as a small update, who supplies photographs and wording, and whether any booking tools or integrations have separate fees. Ask about domain renewal, cancellation and handover too. Extra email users, larger changes and bespoke applications are quoted separately in our proposals.
Work out your own first-year comparison
Write down the upfront fee, the monthly fee multiplied by the number of billed months, and any separately agreed costs. For our stated offer, the build plus 12 billed months is £1,007 (£299 + 12 × £59), excluding separately quoted extras. Monthly billing begins at go-live, so your actual payment dates depend on the project schedule.
Prepare a brief before asking for a price
List the services you sell, the people you want to reach and the action visitors should take. Share an existing website if you have one. Decide whether you need an enquiry form, appointments or a more advanced system. This gives a designer enough information to propose something useful rather than price an undefined project.
Find the right starting point for your business.
